Sometimes, you want to smoke weed for a bit of a pick-me-up—like when you’re going to go on a jog or you’re gearing up to write an article (hypothetically, of course).
Other times, you want to sit back and relax. Maybe you’re putting on your favourite album or a new one you haven’t listened to yet. Maybe you’ve decided that tonight’s the night you’re going to binge-watch all of The Last of Us.
You want a strain that helps all of your worries melt away, leaving you feeling happy and relaxed. We’ve got 10 recommendations for you. Before we give you our recommendations, here’s the standard disclosure:
The disclosure
We can’t guarantee how any of these strains will make you feel. Experiences differ based on your setting, your state of mind, your metabolism, and about a billion other factors. Most users report that these strains help them feel relaxed. Your experience may always differ.
What we look for in relaxing strains
The terpenes
When we look for strains that can help our customers relax, we’re looking for a few different terpenes. Many users report feeling relaxed after using strains with these terpenes:
- - Myrcene has a musky, earthy aroma. Many users report that it helps with muscle relaxation and stress reduction.
- - Linalool, a terpene found in lavender and many cannabis strains, is often reported to help reduce anxiety and may have anti-inflammatory properties.
- - Caryophyllene is a peppery terpene that many users report has anti-inflammatory properties.
- - Pinene, the terpene that gives pine its smell, is often reported to have anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory properties by consumers.
There are a few other terpenes that many consumers have calming, relaxing experiences with, but many of them (like limonene) are often said to have energizing effects as well. We’re sticking with the terpenes that are most likely to be associated with a relaxed state.
THC/CBD ratios
Many users experience a bit more relaxation with higher CBD ratios—some people prefer more CBD than THC in the strains they use for relaxation. In light of this, we’ve included some strains that are CBD dominant in our list.
Sativas, Indicas, and hybrids
As a rule of thumb, people seem to be more inclined to use Indicas (and Indica-dominant hybrids) when they want to relax. Most of the strains we’ve included below are Indicas and Indica-dominant hybrids, but we’ve included one or two Sativas for our Sativa lovers.
Our list of the most relaxing strains (in no particular order)
